Saturday in El Escorial

11 Feb

On Saturday we were able to take a trip to El Escorial, the monastery-home of King Phillip II. We got the normal tour and then were very fortunate to get a special behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the building: Padre Modesto, a friend of the family of one of our Burlington students, took us through the convent, through secret passages in the walls of the Escorial itself, and up onto the top of the dome for some breathtaking views of the surrounding region.

Here’s what Rachel Seeley had to say about today’s trip:

Today we went to El Escorial and everything about it was amazing! The views, and things to see in the building! So far this trip is one of a lifetime!
